Reverse osmosis is a membrane-based mineral separation method that is used to separate dissolved solids such as iron from the solution. In general, membranes act as static selective barriers, barriers that allow certain species such as water to pass through them selectively as purified water while other dissolved particles pass through them. They are kept in them selectively.The RO method is the best separation method currently available and has the highest removal of dissolved solids as well as suspended solids. Note that although RO membranes remove suspended solids, if these solids are present in the water entering the RO, they will collect on the surface of the membrane and produce sediment.
Reverse osmosis can be used both for water purification and for the concentration and recovery of dissolved solids in the feed water (called dewatering). The most common application of ion exchange RO is water softening using sodium to purify the water required for low to medium pressure boilers. The quality of water produced from RO is such that it can be used directly to supply boiler compensation water at such pressures.For higher pressure boilers and steam generators, the RO system can be connected to the ion exchange system as a pre-treatment for the ion exchange system with two beds (two exchange columns) or a mixed bed (bad mix). The use of RO before the ion exchange system can significantly reduce the cycle time of resin regeneration, as well as greatly reduce the amount of acid, base and effluent from the regeneration operation that must be used and stored. In some situations, a secondary RO unit can replace the ion exchange system to produce more pure water than a single RO unit. The output fluid from the RO can be used directly or sometimes softened by the bad mix ion exchange system or continuously subjected to electrical ionization for further purification of the produced water.According to the water analysis of the region and according to the sediments in the waters, sometimes alkaline detergents with high ph and suitable for the membrane are used, so it can be said that the list of materials that can be used in this process includes the following:
